Penny's #1
Pet Peeve:
Being treated in a manner that is DISRESPECTFUL, DISMISSIVE,
DISCOURTEOUS &/or DEMEANING (unless I deserve it!) |
 |
Penny's #2
Pet Peeve:
People NOT taking responsibility for their actions.
Even worse? Trying to blame it on someone else.
Worse yet? Trying to elicit an apology from someone
else for their error. And the worst? Lying about
it. Either grow up or take your childish games
elsewhere - I have no tolerance for that crap. |
 |
Penny's #3
Pet Peeve:
Moochers, slackers, lazy people, thieves, pickpockets &
sheisters. Get off your lazy butt and contribute
instead of sucking resources out of the either the companies
that pay you, the government, &/or the hardworking
people of the world. You have my disgust, not my pity. |
 |
Penny's #4
Pet Peeve:
Lame apologies. Example: "I'm sorry you're
upset by what I did." instead of "I'm sorry
for what I did and that it upset you." I do tend
to hold grudges and would like to be more forgiving and even
tried guided meditation to help me become more kind and
loving (it didn't work). However, how can I forgive if
a person does not ask for forgiveness or even admit to doing
something that needs to be forgiven? |
 |
Annoying
repetitive noises like CRACKING GUM, chewed ice, gnawed carrots
and crunched chips and popcorn which I had to drown out
every day at work for hours thanks to an insensitive co-worker..."When gum you be
crackin', courtesy you be lackin'!" |
 |
Cracking
knuckles (gross!) |
 |
Women's
blazers, skirts, dresses, pants and shorts that do NOT have pockets! |
 |
Taxes -
filling out the forms AND paying them. |
 |
Radio
commercials or sound bits or songs with the sound of a car horn beeping OR
a siren in them. |
 |
Cleaning
the house AND the
house being dirty (not a complementary pair) |
 |
People
who mooch off of others or the government:
"There is nothing more dangerous than someone who
thinks oneself a victim.
Victims feel it's within their rights to walk all over
everyone." |
 |
Long
toenails on dogs |
 |
"No
Dogs Allowed" signs |
 |
Big,
fat, green caterpillars, wispy-legged centipedes, and red, shiny
centipedes |
 |
Burdock,
Buckthorn, Honeysuckle, Box Elders, dandelions, thistles,
skunkweed, stinging nettles, Creeping Charlie |
 |
Saddlebags
in the thigh region (mine, that is) |
 |
Too-tight
fitting clothes on me and anyone, especially chunky monkeys |
 |
Pickles,
mustard, canned pineapple, yams, rutabagas, liver |
 |
Buying
a new car (the process, not the end result) |
 |
Intentional
Exercise, though I do like Incidental Exercise (dog agility,
refinishing antiques, walking to work with heavy bags and
computers, SHOPPING, walking the dogs, etc.) |
 |
Loose
socks that slump down into boots when walking |
 |
Wedgies,
especially with nice new undies! |
 |
Wet
shirt cuffs like after washing dishes. |
Phooey
People
"Some cause happiness
wherever they go; others whenever they go." |
| Traits
I admire: Intelligence, confidence, honesty,
perceptiveness,
loyalty, humorous, tenacity, empathy, altruism,
appreciativeness, candor, sincerity, humility, creativity (BTW,
most of these describe Rob!) |
| Gum
Crackers |
or
"Noise Slobs" as I refer to them. |
| Loud
Chewers |
Another
form of "Noise Slob", those people who eat popcorn,
carrot sticks, etc. with their mouth wide open for the world to
hear! |
| Knuckle
Crackers |
Another
yuk! |
| Arrogant
Egomaniacs |
Insecure
people with fragile egos who can't admit they make
mistakes and blame other people or things (like software,
weather, weird set of circumstances) when they do and whose mode of
operation is to cut other people or things down. |
| Poop
Leavers |
Slobs
who don't pick up after their dogs. |
| Animal
Abusers |
What
kind of sick sick soul could hurt a defenseless animal? |
| Female
Image Busters |
The
too-skinny Barbie doll, super models, beauty magazines, and
anything else that wreaks havoc on a young woman's self image. |
| Cigarette
Butt Tossers |
People
who throw cigarette butts everywhere. |
| LOUD
Harley Riders |
We
like quiet Harleys, but people
who drive obnoxiously loud motorcycles make it hard to
enjoy our yard which borders a highway - their
"tradition" rudely disrupts our outdoors environment.
Especially impressive are bikers who wear earplugs when they ride
and those who need to blast their stereo extremely loud in order
to hear it over their engine. Really really
impressive. Really. |
Bad
Drivers
Jeeper |
People
who don't check their blind spot before changing lanes, cut others
off, drive like maniacs or TOO SLOW, idiots who don't know that
merging traffic has the right of way, and those who don't use
blinkers. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me three, four and more times, I'm a fool. |

things we see and hear and feel,
and forget what may appear disagreeable." |

| Sarah |
Sis2.
My low-strung,
never-tan-enough sister with a million nicknames from when she was
a little girl (Judy, Jude, Wren, Guernsey, Schnookums, Schnuffy,
Beebee, Trotsky, Looden, etc.) who always has the hippest clothes and
hair-dos! I always got to give her perms and French braid
her hair in funky ways when she was a little girl. She used
to emulate EVERYTHING I did as much as she HATES to admit it now -
she even WRITES like me! Her peeviest pet peeve is poor
grammar. Anyways, we should have went skiing alot more in
Denver and could have saw another movie after "Life is
Beautiful".
From Sarah: "I do admit I
wanted to be you, but since maturing into my own person, I now think you
have freakish tendencies. [HUH?!?] I've graciously moved around so
much for my husband's jobs. I'm trying to keep [Penny] trendy. I
enjoy traveling with [Penny], but 5 days with just [her] seems to be my
threshold - and 4 days would probably be perfect. Finally, my
loyalty to Wisconsin-based teams: Badgers, Packers, Bucks, (not
much into Brewers, but maybe my first visit to Miller Park will reel me
in). The real "finally" should say how I could eat just
McDonald's and Drag's and be happy."
|
| Randy |
Emily's husband, who is
as non-verbose as I am verbose. He already has his Masters
Degree in Metallurgical Engineering from UW- Madison (smarty pants), is a fanatical Badger and Packer fan, and is on the
never-ending quest for that perfect engineering job. He
loves GSPs as much as I love Vizslas. |

Helene aka "Angel" |

From my sister Emily (Helene's mom) August 1, 1999:
Helene
misses you, Penny, quite a bit. She tells me today
"I like Grandmas and grandpa and all my aunts and uncles but
I like AUNT PENNY the best-I just like her the best." |
Lenie's April 6,
1999 EMail to Aunt Penny:
Hi Aunt Penny
>From hhelllleene (she typed it herself!)
Helene:
Did the Easter Bunny come to your house?? He came to mine
and hid eggs
outside.
I missed you when we left.
How are your doggies.?
I miss you and I'll hug and kiss you and love you forever.
I went to an easter egg hunt at the park.
Thank you for the little doggy shorthair and vizsla.
I like my new school in Columbus.
Pretty soon we are going to the Columbus Clipper games.
I got the Easter Bitty baby outfit from the Easter Bunny.
I love you so much I can't stop thinking about you Aunt Penny.
Bye Helene |

OK
Oliver, as long as I get good reports from you mom and
Helene, I'll won't list the naughty things you used to do
here.
Oliver has been
christened with more nicknames than his Aunt Sarah.
Here are some: Jerry, fudd, squantz, fuddwardsquantz,
Smoochacov, ollie, silverback, stripeman, stripemaster.
Ollie is a sports
fanatic, plays soccer, hockey and golf.
No matter how good Fudd
is in sports, he'll never get better than me in Gameboy Tetris! |

"When
just being together is more important than what you do, you are with a
friend." |
| Jill |
The
most organized and methodical person I know, she has an amazing
mind. Owner of Neela's other girl puppy "Addie",
our Buelow and Vivvi's sister. Jill has traveled with me
all over the Midwest (Kansas City, Twin Cities, Belvidere &
DeKalb & Amboy, IL, and many others!) to attend dog shows -
we're nuts! And now she has 2 baby twin boys to adore as
well. |
| Mary |
Quite
the sweetheart and dynamo - works full time AND has hobbies that
includes horses, Vizslas, rug hooking, decorating, parenting,
reading... where does she find the time? She had her
own 2 baby twin boys to adore as well! |
| Darlene |
...who shares
my love of dogs and antiques (we're addicted!) - does anyone have
an antique dining room table to sell? |
| Debbie
#1 |
A
Vizslaphile who owned Zoe's littermate brother Alex (sadly, both
have passed) and who drove
with me TWICE to Louisville, KY (with all 4 of our monsters in an
extended cab pickup) and is STILL my friend. |
| Debbie
#2 |
My fantastic
(and patient) agility instructor who owns dogs of a breed called
"North American Miniature Australian Shepherds".
The name is bigger than the dog! |
| Joy |
Another
Vizslaphile, Zoe's breeder, and one of the kindest breeders ever; Joy never says anything bad about
anyone or anything (I know, it has not rubbed off on me
unfortunately) |
| Sue |
Yet another
Vizslaphile and agilitizer who has such a dry, hilarious wit I'm
surprised she doesn't live in Flagstaff |
| Liz |
A
combustible
co-worker and co-miserator and systems designer extraordinaire
with two darling daughters Emily & Megan! |
| Marie |
A
co-worker & friend who volunteers countless hours to the Channels 10/36 public
auction (and sucked me in too, by the way!) She's been on
countless exotic vacations and I've been on...zip. Yup,
I'm jealous. |
| Sandy |
A
co-agilitizer
with her BC Dax and GS Max, and whose woodworking skills, tools,
and machinery I covet...she made me my agility dogwalk, teeter and
tire jump, and is helping me make 6 more jumps & a pause
table...she cuts wood for me when my antique refinishing or house
refurbishing or remodeling projects demand it but I don't have the
tools |
| Gail |
An
ex-co-worker who loves to spend hours making delectable desserts
BUT NEVER EATS THEM (you can't have her-she's MY friend!)...she's
also responsible for increasing my awareness of how anti-women
society still is |
| RobAnn |
An extremely
intelligent ex-co-worker and fellow dog lover (hi Timmy, Billy,
& Pow) who I miss at work and think of often - she's also a
Microsoft-Certified VB developer! And I got to increase her
awareness of how anti-women society still is! |
| Therese |
A
happy,
faultlessly nonjudgmental ex-co-worker who had the big heart to
leave work to be a full-time mother to cutie-pie Alec and sweetie
Kyle. |
| Frank |
Well, he's
just Frank, the best I've ever seen...(and a Teradata and Oracle-certified
DBA - the best DBA I've ever seen!) And UNIX certified twice
over. And a former Harley owner. And a very good friend,
though he won't admit likewise. Boo-hoo... |
| Howard |
A
co-worker
whose cubicle is next to mine, and who attempts to keep me sane
and objective and calm (an impossible task, as you all well know!)
and can hold a worse grudge than Penny- Keeper-of-the-Grudge,
causing me to work hard to never get on his bad side. |
Mike
#1
aka M!-Pal
(I'm Pen-Pal) |
A
clever old Irish Catholic friend from my home town of Rice Lake who keeps popping in and out
of my life and who has lots of brothers and one sister. I
took swimming lessons from Bill and sat next to John's wife Lisa
who played bass clarinet in band at RLHS. Great marathon
runner and cross country skier too (he's a Birkie
regular). He upped and
moved away to the Twin Cities - which means I'll probably see him more!
I DO see him more regardless of what he says. |
| Mike
#2 |
An amazingly
bright and hard-working ex-Taiwanese (now American! Yeah!)
who taught me how to swing-salsa a little and whose boxes are
STILL in
my attic. My partner at the 98 Degrees concert too. AND who
bought me the first hot tea that I ever drank - Jasmine Tea from
Intelligentia in downtown Chicago. |
| Christian |
A
tall, dark, handsome big flirt from Germany with a great accent who I met many years ago at a
PowerBuilder (software) conference in Florida. He always
makes me feel special: his March 2006 Email states "You
[look] like Ive met you the first time in Florida - beautyfull. The years past you without any
harm." He has a
wife and two lovely children and still finds time to Email me
here & there. |

● UPCOMING
RUNS:
None planned at the moment...
● FIRST FUN RUN - 5K:
Samson Stomp, Milw Zoo, Jan
15, 2006 - finished w/ 10-min miles! "The miracle
isn't that I finished . . . The miracle is that I had the
courage to start."
● SECOND FUN RUN -
8K: Steve Cullen Healthy Hearts,
Feb 11, 2006 (Wauwatosa, WI) - Finished in 49:14 (official time is
49:27 - we didn't reach the start line for 13 seconds after the
gun) - the course was 100% up and down hills (last one was steep
up) and it was SNOWING.
● THIRD FUN RUN -
5K: Waukesha
Trailbreaker, Apr 1, 2006 - Finished in 28:51 (official
time 29:04) or 112/198 total runners, 26/74 women runners; 5/8 in my sex/age
class. Cut 2 minutes off my first 5K time in January 2006
- 9:20 minute miles. Rob ran the 5K with me because he
sprained his ankle a few weeks ago and couldn't keep up training
for the Half Marathon.
● FOURTH FUN RUN -
8K: Crazylegs
Classic, Apr 29, 2006 - This was not a FUN run, it was
torture. Time: 49:11 which is a miracle with all the
hills, especially the big windy one after Mile 1. Rob ran
with me. Cloudy
& cool, rain held off.
● FIFTH FUN RUN -
5K: Chocolate
Chase, May 20, 2006 - This was a small, fun run. Time:
28:38 which is my speed PR so far (9:13 min miles). I ran
this run alone - Rob was golfing and my friend had to work.
● SIXTH FUN RUN -
5K: Mukwonago Village Run, June 10, 2006 - Very
small run, flat course, 50 degrees. Time 27:42 - new speed PR (8:55 min miles).
● SEVENTH FUN RUN -
4M: Lighthouse
Run, June 17, 2006 - Lots of racers, 80+ degrees &
breezy, hilly & pretty course. Time 39:30. Last
2 miles felt better (faster) than first 2.
● EIGHTH FUN RUN -
5K: Super
Run, June 28, 2006 - Got stuck in a pack of slow runners the
first mile (narrow course) and Mile 1 time split was 10:30
(yikes!), made it up big hill no problem, picked up the pace
before Mile 2 and passed about 50 people in the last mile or so
(I remember passing someone I know shortly after I sped up and

● MOTIVATION:
Proving that older can be BETTER!
● PHILOSOPHY:
Run however far you can
as often as you want at whatever pace feels good.
● EARLY
MANTRA: "You're
old and fat and ugly, Your running is a fluke. All those
jiggling parts, Make me want to puke."
● NEW
MANTRA: "You run for miles and miles, You're into
it long term. All that cottage cheese, Now's Tofu - Extra
Firm!"
